Entering New Living Facilities:

"r dukan se<qr Aaid me<

Preparations:

After completing his morning duties, the owner or the priest should decorate the place, especially the main room in which the ceremony will take place. Strings of mango leaves are very auspicious. So are bananas, tree trunks, other nice green plants, flowers, etc. In the west, one can also use stalks of wheat, which are very auspicious and more easily available, being part of the western tradition to bring safety, no scarcity of food, and strength to the house (like the horn of plenty in America).

An altar should be installed with the parampara, Gaoura-Nitai and salagram-Sila if possible, or the household Deity. One can use pictures instead.

One can install a maha-kumbha with Radha-Krishna or Goura- Nitai.

Some halava and grains should be made available for the fire. A nice feast should be arranged as well, so that it can be offered to the Deity during the ceremony and then to everybody as prasadam.

Make some flower garlands for the altar, the priest and the beneficiaries.

Perform Kusandika. The name of the fire is "Pavaka."

itsar bNxnm! >

Install a small Kusa asana near the altar.

Cover the asana with rice and place a pot on it.

The installation of a kumbha is not part of this book. So this can be done by those priests who already know about it.

Fill the pot, saying:

1, -U-uRv> Sv>

Place a Tulasi leaf inside, as well as a bunch of 21 blades of Kusa grass or wheat or darbha grass, more easily available in the west or a bunch of mango leaves.

Put a coconot or a banana on the top of the pot.

Take a piece of cloth and wrap it around the coconut, while chanting the following mantra to invoke Varuna in the pot:

2, ` v[ay nm> , Aaayaim , Aaain mua ,

Swapyaim , Swapn mua ,

Worship with five upacara (dhupa, dipa, puspa, candan, naivedyam) with the mula-mantra:

3, ` v[ay nm>,

Place a few nine-standered cotton threads, smeared with ghee and tumeric, on the top of the coconut. They will later be used to bind the writs of the priest and beneficiaries. The males will receive it on the right wrist and the femailes on the left.

Recite the Sri Isopanisad.

Using the bunch of Kusa from the pot (kumbha), the priest should sprinkle the thread with water from the same pot, saying:

4, ` ASay heitrajay hu< )q! ,

The priest should now look at the thread and mediatate on Vasuki (king of the Nagas), saying:

5, yMbk< yjamhe sug<ix< pui:qvxRnm! ,

%vRKm #v bNxnm! m&Tyaer mae]Iy< Am&tat! .

The main beneficiary should then place the pot in the right hand of the priest and tie his right wrist with one of the nine standard cotton threads, chanting:

6, ` ApgCDtu te -Ut ye -Ut -Uiv s<iSwta> ,

ye -Ut iv ktaRrSte gCDNty Aa}ay hre> .

"May the Lord protect us from disturbances by any subtle living being so that we may perform our service without obstacles."

The priest should then place the pot in the hand of the beneficiary and tie a thread with the same mantra, then the beneficiary will give the pot to another, and tie a thread and so on.

In the case of a new house, a youg virgin girl, nicely dressed in a sari, along with the priest and the new owner, should go out and circumambulate the house one time. The girl should carefully hold the picture of the Deity in her hands,or hold the Kumbha on her head with her hands.

During the circumambulation, the priest chants the following mantra, while sprinkling around some water from the pot, with the help of the kusa:

3, ` ASy kmR[a pu{yah< -vNtu uvNtu ,

gu puja >

Perform the aratika for the spiritual master.

Tn the Karma-Kanda ritual, at this point of the caremony, Ganesa and Laksmi-Dvi are worshipped. We are instead worshipping the Guru (also more easy), because he is the representative and the sum total of all devas.

The priest can invoke the auspicious mantra of Visvaksena to ask for protection or a kumbha of Visvaksena can be installed and worshipped with sixteen items:

` iv:vksenay nm> ,

` ASy irat vKTa* pair;a* prztm! ,

iv< inivRiNt stt< iv:vksen< smaye .

AcRn >

LofLr okpu (Svasti-Vacana:)

Three brahmanas should throw some aksata (rice mixed with tumeric) three times after each mantras.

In India, a murti of Ganesh is installed and worshiped. At the end of the ceremony he is placed on a little altar over the entrance door, outside of the house. Laksmi is installed and worshipped through a yantra.

` ASy kmR[a pu{yah< -vNtu uvNtu ,

Perform worship of the Deity, or the Kumbha or the salagrama-sila with 16 upacara, including a pancamrita abhiseka. After this, offer the feast while a bhajan or a lecture can go on simultaneously:

5: haem >

Start the homa calling the fire "pavaka".

Perform Mahavyahriti homa.

Purusa-homa(with the 17 fiirst veres of the purusa-sukta).

Maha-vyahriti-homa.

Mangalacarana (verse by verse).

The beneficiary and all present should throw grains during all the above listed homa, each time the word svaha is being pronounced.
